As you know we have this passion for turning Vacant to Vibrant at Can do Places so we were really excited to hear from – and also chat to the great people from Teenage Market. Glenrothes will soon be home to a vibrant and innovative market aimed at the town’s young people.
The first to be held in Scotland, The Teenage Market gives young traders and performers a chance to showcase their creative products and talents for free. It comes to the Kingdom Centre in Glenrothes on Saturday 3rd October 2015 (NB: the event has now ended.)
The Teenage Market is a growing nationwide initiative set up by teenage brothers Joe and Tom Barratt in Stockport as a way to support local young people and transform town centres. The energy, diversity and vibrancy of the young people who take part in Teenage Markets is helping to breathe life back into high streets, town centres and market areas across the country.
The Glenrothes Teenage Market is being led, designed and run by members of the Glenrothes Youth Forum which is supported by the young people of the local community and the Youth Work Programme.
Tara Jones of the Youth Forum:
‘Being part of the Youth Forum gives us a chance to learn new skills and develop our personalities to become better and more involved members of the community. The Teenage Market is another in a long list of projects run by the group which aim to help Young People become more independent and grow as individuals to help in society’.
‘The aim of the Teenage Market is to show off the talents of the local teenage community, including things such as art, jewellery, clothing and craft stalls along with various performers. The teen community has a wide variety of talents to offer so the market will have something that will appeal to everyone.’
The Teenage Market is key to identifying a new generation of entrepreneurs and making young people an active part of our town centres. It is a fantastic opportunity for the young people of Glenrothes to have a free platform to get their businesses ideas off the ground and showcase their creative talents.
