Just three months ago (July 2014), our Postcard from the Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust (covering Cambuslang and Rutherglen, near Glasgow), highlighted the launch of their Bike Town project, aimed at encouraging local people to get on their bikes and at turning Cam/Glen into such a bike friendly area that cycling visitors would be streaming to it in their thousands.

Now we hear from the Bike Towners that their brand new “Shop in a Box” is officially up and running (so to speak).

BTshop_downiebrae_v2_s3The Shop, located on Cambuslang Road in Rutherglen (next to Fleming Carpets, apparently – “beside the red Post Box”) has been created inside a 40 foot long steel shipping container, using recycled timber (which is obviously appropriate). Open two days a week, this new development is operating as a fledgling social enterprise cycle shop and a meeting point for a variety of cycle-related activities.

The official launch programme for Shop in a Box included Bling Your Bike; Dr. Bike and a forage-themed guided bike ride.
